Learning Objectives:
This virtual Disaster Dynamics Academy is designed to help IBHS member-exclusive participants build practical knowledge of our FORTIFIED programs: FORTIFIED Home and FORTIFIED Multifamily.
By the end of the training, participants should be better prepared to explain program requirements, interpret evaluation and designation processes, and use available tools and resources to support policyholder education and risk-reduction efforts.
After completing this training, Members should be able to:
- Describe the purpose, structure, and designation levels of the FORTIFIED Home and Multifamily programs.
- Explain how FORTIFIED requirements compare with building codes and how adoption varies across regions and jurisdictions.
- Identify key wind, hail, and water vulnerabilities addressed through FORTIFIED Roof, Silver, and Gold designations.
- Summarize relevant IBHS research and real-world performance evidence that support the value of resilient construction and retrofits.
- Discuss how the first 100,000 FORTIFIED designations was shaped by regional hazard profiles, consumer demand, and grant or incentive programs.
- Use insurer-facing tools and educational resources to support underwriting, risk conversations, and policyholder engagement.
- Outline the FORTIFIED evaluation, designation, and re-designation process and better understand the homeowner and evaluator relationship.
- Use consumer sentiment insights to have more informed conversations with policy holders and understand potential barriers to adoption.
The training will also include demonstrations and process walkthroughs so IBHS member participants can connect these learning objectives to the steps homeowners and evaluators follow throughout the program lifecycle.

This training is designed primarily for agents and professionals who support agent engagement, education, and program implementation. Additional audiences may include underwriters seeking a deeper understanding of the FORTIFIED programs, professionals in risk management, product, development, claims, and communications.

Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how FORTIFIED addresses real-world property vulnerabilities, how the designation process works, and how to apply available tools and resources in support of underwriting, policyholder education, and program adoption.
