IBHS turns research and insights into actions policyholders may take to reduce costs associated with weather-related losses. Our FORTIFIED Home™ and FORTIFIED Commercial web pages are policyholder-focused. We encourage you to provide the links to policyholders via email, social channels, etc.
FORTIFIED Standards go beyond typical building codes to deliver superior performance during severe weather (such as hurricanes, strong thunderstorms, and lower-level tornadoes). FORTIFIED is a nationally recognized building method based on more than 20 years of scientific research and real-world testing by IBHS.
Alabama FORTIFIED Roof™ Endorsement
IBHS has launched a page to help our members understand and comply with recently announced regulatory changes in Alabama requiring insurers to offer customers a FORTIFIED Roof endorsement on new policies and first renewals.
Post-Hurricane Sally
In an effort to reduce damage to commercial structures and help businesses re-open more quickly following severe weather, IBHS developed FORTIFIED Commercial™, a voluntary, superior construction standard and designation/compliance program.
When Hurricane Sally struck coastal Alabama in September as a Category 2 storm, 19 FORTIFIED Commercial properties were put to the test. Not only did these structures perform well during the storm, the occupants were able to recover quickly and regain normalcy.
