IBHS in collaboration with ISO, AND VERISK conducted a joint study on ice dams and building codes. IBHS devotes considerable resources to examining the many causes of roof system problems and failures. Often overlooked due to its regional nature is damage caused by extreme cold and winter weather. Water intrusion into homes is a damage amplifier regardless of how the water enters a home. In northern climates, one condition that can produce water intrusion from the roof system is ice dams. We take an in-depth look at one northern state to see if they are protected.
