What to Expect:

Join IBHS for the final Disaster Dynamics Academy of 2024- Roofing Roadmaps, Setting Expectations in Roof Cover Performance.

Fulfilling a strategic commitment to provide guidance on the relative performance of roofs in wind and hail, IBHS is developing Roofing Roadmaps. This two-day online DDA featuring IBHS experts will concentrate on the following themes:

  • Understand the fundamentals of the primary U.S. residential roof cover types—asphalt shingles, tile, and metal—and installation methods.
  • Learn the environmental extremes that roofs endure, how these conditions influence roof aging, and the different distress types that can affect roof performance in severe weather.
  • Dive deep into the wind and hail performance of each roof cover type based on IBHS research from the lab and field observations.

Through lab demonstrations and presentations, attendees will develop an understanding of the wind and hail vulnerabilities of the most common roofing materials and gain insight on how these roofing materials are driving insurance losses. Sessions will include the strengths and weaknesses of each material. Attendees will also learn how IBHS is advancing its Roofing Roadmaps strategy to inform expectations around roof cover performance.

Who Should Attend:

While all Members are welcome, based on the content, we especially encourage Members who operate within underwriting, property claims, adjustment, and risk management departments to attend.

Thoughts from Past Attendees

“This information was very helpful and is of value to my role in the claims organization. Info regarding the inaccuracy of observer data is a key callout as it is often foundational in deploying claim associates. I would recommend [DDA] to all Directors in our Underwriting, Product and Claim organizations.”

DDA Attendee

“I am responsible for my company’s disaster response, so the information about your deployment and tracking was very helpful.”

DDA Attendee

“I focus on the pricing aspect of CAT perils, so learning more about the science behind the perils is extremely helpful.”

DDA Attendee

“We will integrate the information from this into risk assessment modeling.”

DDA Attendee

“I left with several ideas for improving post-loss analytic practices.”
