Join IBHS experts as they share insights from Category 4 Hurricane Ian that struck Florida in September 2022, resulting in an estimated 50-65 billion dollars in losses. Discussions will focus on how the Florida building code and its system of inspections and enforcement performed, highlighting specific successes and failures in affected areas within a state that implements the strongest building codes in the U.S. We will also look back at Hurricane Charley (2004) and explore the progress that has been made in reducing structural damage. Despite the successes, experts will reveal how the damage could have been even more severe in communities where aging infrastructure employing outdated building codes prevails.

You will learn:

  • Successes and failures of modern Florida building codes
  • Asphalt shingle roof performance
  • Areas where we can improve future building codes and catastrophe modeling

IBHS Experts:

  • Dr. Ian Giammanco
  • Dr. Murray Morrison
  • Dr. Ali Merhi

Hosts:

  • Christina Gropp
  • Armand Broady

Who should watch:
