IBHS Expands Engineering Staff with Addition of Building Code, Construction Expert

Tampa – Ms. Wanda Edwards has joined the Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) in the new position of Director of Code Development.  

Ms. Edwards will plan, organize and direct all building code development activities and provide technical support for IBHS building code initiatives.   

Ms. Edwards served most recently as Deputy Commissioner in the Engineering Division of the North Carolina Department of Insurance.  In 2004, she was Fulbright Scholar to University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago, where she developed a training and certification program for building inspectors in the country.  She previously owned a residential construction company, performed structural defect inspections for a national home warranty corporation, and taught community college courses on construction and building codes.

Ms. Edwards earned bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering as well as environmental design from North Carolina State University.  She is a licensed professional engineer and member of the structural committee with the International Code Council.

“Ms. Edwards’ extensive engineering experience and professional background will help further drive our efforts to make homes and businesses safer from disasters,” said IBHS President & CEO Harvey Ryland.  “It is a privilege to add someone of this caliber and with these credentials to our organization.”

The Institute for Business & Home Safety is an initiative of the insurance industry that works to reduce the social and economic effects of natural disasters and other property losses by conducting research and advocating improved construction, maintenance and preparation practices.
