Tampa - Commercial property owners now have some help combating what could be a costly problem.

The Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) has developed a series of guides under the heading “Water Damage Prevention for Commercial Buildings.”  The three publications address three vulnerable areas, The Building Envelope, Grounds Maintenance and Landscaping, and HVAC Systems.

While every building is unique, each is at risk for water damage, whether from a minor roof leak, improperly maintained plumbing or a violently destructive storm.

Major components like the heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems need to operate properly and be regularly maintained.  Protecting the roof, walls, windows and other components is also essential to reducing the likelihood of water intrusion.

The guides are available on the IBHS web site www.disastersafety.org. Free single copies can be requested online or by calling toll-free 1 (866) 657-4247.

The Institute for Business & Home Safety works to reduce the social and economic effects of natural disasters and other property losses by conducting research and advocating improved construction, maintenance and preparation practices.
