IBHS In The News

The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal turn to IBHS for input in ongoing hurricane coverage
Date: 9/29/2005

In its Sunday "Week in Review" section, The New York Times article "Imagine 20 years of This," outlined six crucial questions the country faces from increased hurricane activity, with IBHS providing the answers related to better housing construction.

The Wall Street Journal today looked at the state of construction in Louisiana and Mississippi and questioned whether stronger building codes will result.  IBHS explained in "Building Houses That Can Stand Up to Hurricanes" that both states have voluntary statewide building codes that leave it up to local governments to decide whether to use or enforce them.  "Some places had no building code and had no building department."
