Tampa – “Leadership in Property Loss Reduction” is the theme of the Institute for Business & Home Safety’s 2002 annual report, available on the group’s website today.

The report features a look at the organization’s diverse activities and accomplishments in 2002, undertaken as part of its mission to reduce the social and economic losses from natural disasters.

In his annual report message, IBHS Board of Directors Chairman Larry Lange notes the group’s work was “all with an eye toward a future that will be better for those we serve and who depend on us to lead with a vibrant vision.”

During the course of the year, the institute brought its expertise to public and private policy issues regarding flooding, levees, and building codes, and helped convene a cross section of academia, government and business representatives to explore economic incentives to create safer communities.

While continuing to help protect homes and businesses from perils like hurricanes, hail, flooding, freezing weather and wildfires, IBHS added water damage prevention to its programs last year.

IBHS President & CEO Harvey Ryland states in his message that, “More than ever before, homeowners, businesses and entire communities can make the choice to better protect themselves from both catastrophic and day-to-day natural events. Disaster-resistant materials and techniques are increasingly affordable and available.”
