Tampa - The Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), together with the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP), are accepting entries for their annual award recognizing scholarship in the general area of land use planning and natural hazards.
One $1,000 award will be presented at the ACSP/AESOP joint conference, July 8-12, 2003, in Leuven, Belgium.
Papers should address some topic of relevance to the relationship between natural hazards and land use planning, including, but not limited to: flooding, coastal erosion, land subsidence, earthquakes, or other geologic or meteorological hazard impacts that can be minimized through community, regional, or state planning. Papers should not exceed 40 pages.
Undergraduate, graduate, and joint faculty/student papers are eligible. For joint faculty/student papers, the student must be the first author and designated presenter of the paper.
Abstracts must be submitted directly to ACSP conference organizers by 13 January 2003. Copies of the abstracts also should be sent to the ACSP-IBHS committee chair with a cover memo indicating intent to submit a paper for the ACSP-IBHS award.
Only papers accepted for presentation at the Conference are eligible for the award.
Authors whose abstracts are accepted for presentation should submit four copies of their final papers to the ACSP-IBHS committee chair by 14 April 2003 with full student author information, including name, institutional affiliation, name of faculty advisor or co-author (indicate clearly if faculty member is co-author), degree program (undergraduate, masters, Ph.D.), degree status (in progress or awarded), mailing address, phone, facsimile and e-mail.
