National Safety Group Establishes Headquarters at New Disaster-Resistant Building in Tampa
Contact: Wendy Fontaine
Date: 7/22/2002

Tampa – The Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) has moved its headquarters to a new disaster-resistant building on the campus of MOSI, Tampa’s Museum of Science & Industry.

The national safety group had been located in temporary office space in the Westshore Business District since moving from Boston to Tampa in 2000. IBHS now occupies the second floor of the recently completed two-story structure. The first floor of the 17,000 square foot building is planned to be MOSI’s future Welcome Plaza. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house is planned for later this year.

The Institute’s new address is 4775 E. Fowler Avenue, Tampa, FL 33617. Phone numbers remain the same: the main switchboard is (813) 286-3400, the fax number is (813) 286-9960 and the toll-free number is 1 (866) 657-IBHS (4247).

RBK Architects of Tampa designed the building, which features impact-resistant windows as well as impact- and pressure-resistant entry doors. Engineers used design pressures based on a wind speed of 120 m.p.h., which is well above what is required by code.

IBHS is a national nonprofit initiative of the insurance industry to reduce deaths, injuries, property damage, economic losses and human suffering caused by natural disasters.
