Tampa - Representatives of the Firewise Communities program presented Harvey Ryland, president & CEO of the Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), with a special award recognizing his organization’s commitment to wildfire safety.

Jim Smalley, Firewise Communities project manager, presented Mr. Ryland with a framed, full-scale reproduction of “Firewise Communities,” a painting by western artist Monte Dolack. The artwork was commissioned especially for the premier activity of the National Wildland/Urban Interface Fire Program. Depicting a fire scene in a neighborhood and surrounding forestlands, it demonstrates how homeowners can make sensible choices to protect their property from wildfire damage.

“Harvey and IBHS were the first stakeholders to support the Firewise concept when it was only an idea. They have been consistent supporters and sponsors of the project from day one. We are very proud and pleased to have them as partners,” said Smalley.
