Tampa – Harvey Ryland, president & CEO of the Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), has been named to the board of directors of the International Hurricane Center (IHC).
“We are honored that Mr. Ryland has agreed to serve as a member of the IHC board of directors,” said Dr. Stephen Leatherman, IHC Professor and Director. “IBHS is widely recognized as the leading non-governmental organization (NGO) involved in natural disasters, and his initiatives regarding hurricane mitigation dovetail nicely with our agenda, as we work together to decrease the damage from natural hazards.”
IBHS is a national nonprofit initiative of the insurance industry based in Tampa. Its mission is to reduce deaths, injuries, property damage, economic losses and human suffering caused by natural disasters.
The IHC, located on the campus of Florida International University (FIU) in Miami, is an interdisciplinary research center focused on the mitigation of hurricane damage to people, the economy, and the built and natural environments. The IHC is also the formal liaison for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Tropical Prediction Center and National Hurricane Center, co-located at FIU.
